Our Favorite Virtual Travel Websites

In the words of the great Lao Tsu, "A great traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving."

Traveling Online
A growing site with about 15 destinations currently covered. Each location is covered by a contributor and has a nice travelogue and good pictures. (Don't miss the photos of Niagara Falls and Sacket's Harbor, NY.)

Kevin's World Travel Website
Not many of the sites run by travel agents, or with contributions by scores of people, would be able to keep pace with Kevin Hartwell. His site is a showpiece of 12 years of his journeys and he covers a huge range of places. However Kevin doesn't waste too much time with words; he lets his lens do the talking.

Virtourist.com
This site covers quite a few locations, especially in Europe and America, and has a slide-show type of presentation with photos and a text commentary.

Expedia.com
A superb site. Just take a peek into the huge number of locations it covers (that's why I told you about the smaller sites first!) ;-) For my version of Internet Explorer (IE 5.5), I needed an extra plug-in from Microsoft, but all the little details were handled from the site and it took just a few seconds. And after that... WOW! Superb video clips.

The Joy of Virtual Travel Clubs/Discussion Forums

Virtual Traveler Club
A small little club... just 55 members. (Sorry, 56 including me.) But it already has some good photographs of Greece and Bali. It will get even better once you join us.... :-)
