Class Act: Classic Musicals
What a site! Class Act covers Films, Actors, Music, Composers, and so much more! Tremendous amount of info on just about every musical you can think of! Video and CD info is given on songs, (though it's usually an Amazon or eBay link). To really get excited, start with their "Academy Awards" list, and scroll way on down for Musical Biographies, complete with crosslinks.

The Great MGM Musicals Page
See what a fan can do! "A chronological listing of every MGM musical from 1929 to the present... just click on a movie title to get all the info!"

Start with The Broadway Melody of 1929 and go right on through to That's Entertainment III in 1994. Find Credits, Cast, Songs, Plot Summary, and more info/tidbits in Notes. Movie Poster pics are not clickable and are not lined up with their musicals. For those pictured, find The Wizard of Oz under 1939, Meet Me in St. Louis under 1944, Singin' In The Rain under 1952, and That's Entertainment! under 1974, '76, and '94. Babes on Broadway (pic at bottom of page) is under 1942.

Musicals from Stage to Screen
An interesting site for some of the musicals, like the title says, that have gone from stage to screen. Find Cast, Crew, The Songs (with midis), Stage to Screen (changes made), The Store, and Links. Glenn Whelan, who authors the site, critiques song by song. Glenn is by no means a love-'em-all-and-everything-about-'em kind of guy. He calls 'em as he sees 'em. (And if you would like to "discuss" it with him, his email address is provided.)

Musicals covered include: 1776, Annie, Brigadoon, Bye Bye Birdie, Cabaret, Camelot, Carousel, Damn Yankees, Evita, Fiddler on the Roof, Flower Drum Song, Funny Thing Happened..., Godspell, Grease, Guys & Dolls, How to Succeed..., Jesus Christ Superstar, Little Shop of Horrors, Man of La Mancha, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, Oliver, Rocky Horror..., The Sound of Music, South Pacific, and West Side Story. (Hold your mouse over a Title to see the pic that comes up on center stage. Cute.)

Read: Musical and Dance Films
A must-read by Tim Dirks, an award winning specialist in Classic Hollywood Films. Three whole online pages (about 12-plus printed) on the history of our beloved "all-singing, all-dancing" genre. Read about it from the beginning from Don Juan (1926) and The Jazz Singer (1927), Busby Berkeley, and Astaire and Rogers through to rock musicals and Disney's animated "musical blockbusters."

On the last page you'll find Selection of Greatest Musicals and Dance Films, Greatest Astaire/Rogers Films, and Other Greatest Musicals and Dance Films in which you'll be reminded that there were some latter-day greats after all. A joy to read for any fan!
