Publishers Weekly
Read what's hot, learn about the industry and be sure to check out the associations sponsored by PW (look in the left sidebar). You'll find one association sponsored by PW that everyone looking for an agent will want to visit -- the Association of Authors Representatives.

If you were selling your house, you'd want to know that your real estate agent belonged to a professional organization, wouldn't you? BUT be sure to read the magazine, too.

Independent Press, or Self-Publish?
Look through this site for information about small press and independent publishers. Most of the listings in the member directory contain links to publisher websites, where you'll find vital information about each publishers' submission requirements, type of publication, number of books published each year, plus contact information for the editorial staff.

Read articles from the newsletter archives to learn more about independent publishing. AND... if you have any interest in self-publishing, this is the site for you. This organization provides Publishing University each year, at BookExpo, the national bookselling trade show. Before you even think about self-publishing, or e-publishing, look this site over and consider going to Publishing University.

Writers Guild of America
The Writers Guild of America is instrumental in protecting the rights of writers, mainly of screenplays and movies. The web site features excerpts from WGA's magazine, Written By, online jobs for writers, a list of agents (with annotations that tell you which agents will consider work by new writers), contract information, research links, and the all-important WGA script registration link (which provides a dated record of a writer's claim of authorship of a particular piece of literary material). If you're interested in writing screenplays or scripts, this is the leading site.
