Stewart's Favorite Anime & Manga Websites
Ohayo gozaimasu! Welcome to the realm of Anime & Manga! Let's define a few terms...

Anime literally means "animation" in Japanese -- technically all cartoons are anime. Outside of Japan, the word has come to mean specifically Japanese cartoons.

Manga are comic books. In Japan, cartoons and comics are considered as just another form of entertainment and do not have the "kiddie fare" stigma that they do in the USA. Anime and manga can deal with any subject matter, from business to sports to science fiction, and can be appropriate for all ages, or for adults only.

Anime Web Turnpike
This is one of the single greatest resources for anime and manga on the Web with countless pages, e-shops, conventions, chatrooms and more -- all with info on such titles as Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, Evangelion, Rurouni Kenshin, Slayers, Fushigi Yuugi, Gundam and more. If there's a series or movie you're curious about, this is without a doubt the best place to start looking.

Fansubs.net
Dedicated anime fans frequently get a hold of videos that aren't commercially available in English translations, and do their own. Not all titles are picked up for US distribution and fansubs are pretty much the only way to view translations of some series.

The Right Stuf
Right Stuf International, an anime publisher and online anime superstore, is one of the best sites around for ordering commercially available videos (both subtitle and English) and DVDs.

They also have a wide range of merchandise including translated manga and plenty of dolls, posters, wall scrolls, artbooks, playing cards, music, t-shirts, hats, keychains, watches and much, much more! The selection is huge and their prices are reasonable (be sure to check out the Weekly specials). The service is prompt and the website is well-designed.

e-Zines and News Sites
Here are some of my favorite sources of anime-related news.
Anime News Network
ANN is one of several news sites that I check on a daily basis. It's probably my favorite of the lot. They feature anime-related news, as well as frequent reviews and even the occasional essay.

Animefringe
Animefringe is an online anime 'zine with very high production values. They release a new issue every month, and all of their back issues are available online. The website is set up so that you can either look at a specific article, or browse through each issue "page" by "page." Their articles are well-researched and usually feature several links to related sites. Highly recommended!
